File Transfers

If you regularly upload or download files from/to a remote server or client (PC, CD-ROM or floppy disk), the generic file transfers program enables you to perform the transfer manually or as a scheduled event (timed operation). It enables you to send an e-mail or a file attachment to an individual or mail group, and purge (delete) files after a file transfer. It also enables you to also see who performed the last file transfer, the date and time of the transfer, and whether or not it was successful.

What do you want to do?

Displaying the File Transfer Editor

To display the File Transfer Editor:

  1. Select the Manufacturer systems option and the appropriate manufacturer from the Autoline master menu.

    The Operations menu is displayed.

  2. Select the General utilities option.

    The MS Utilities menu is displayed.

  3. Select the Generic file transfers option.

    The File Transfer Editor is displayed, all fields except File transfer record ID being unselectable.

Editing and Saving a File Transfer Record

To edit and save a file transfer record:

  1. Complete the General details group, then complete the other fields on the form.

    Note: The FTP login details group fields become editable only if you select FTP as the transfer Method. The entire FTP login details group is replaced by an API copy chunk size group if you select API copy as the transfer method.

  2. Select File > Save record from the menu bar or click the Save the changes toolbar button Save.gif

    The file transfer record is automatically validated, resulting in one of these outcomes:

    Tip: You can abandon the record creation at any time by selecting File > Cancel changes from the menu bar or clicking the Cancel all changes and revert to original record toolbar button Cancel.gif

Creating a File Transfer Record

You can create a new record either by completing a blank record in the File Transfer Editor or by using the File Transfer Creation Wizard, which organises the process as a series of sequentially displayed tabs broadly equivalent to the editor groups.

What do you want to do?

To create a file transfer record by completing a blank record in the editor:

  1. Follow the procedure for Displaying the File Transfer Editor.

    The File Transfer Editor is displayed, all fields except File transfer record ID being unselectable.

  2. Select File > Create new record from the menu bar or click the Create new record button FileNew3.gif

    Note: If you are already editing an existing record, the system displays a confirmation dialog that you must complete before it clears the form and loads the default record (mostly blank).

    The New Record Name form is displayed.

  3. Enter the Record ID and Description and click OK. Do not include the company number in the Record ID because that is changeable on the main form.

    Tip: Click the ellipsis button [...] to select from a list of standard record IDs, the Description field also being automatically completed.

    You are returned to the File Transfer Editor, its File transfer record ID and Description fields completed.

  4. Edit and save the record.

Cloning a File Transfer Record

To clone a file transfer record:

  1. Follow the procedure for loading a record into the File Transfer Editor.

    The File Transfer Editor is displayed, containing the selected record, its fields non-editable.

  2. Select File > Clone Record from the menu bar or click the Clone a new record from the selected record toolbar button CloneRecord.gif

    The New Record Name form is displayed.

  3. Enter the Record ID and Description and click OK. Do not include the company number in the Record ID because that is changeable in the File Transfer Editor.

    Tip: Click the ellipsis button [...] to select from a list of standard record IDs, the Description field also being automatically completed.

    You are returned to the File Transfer Editor, its File transfer record ID and Description fields modified appropriately and its other fields ready for you to edit.

  4. Edit and save the record.

Amending a File Transfer Record

To amend a file transfer record:

  1. Follow the procedure for loading a record into the File Transfer Editor.

    The File Transfer Editor is displayed, containing the selected record, its fields non-editable.

  2. Select File > Edit selected record from the menu bar or click the Edit the current record toolbar button rename.gif

    The fields become editable.

  3. Edit and save the record.

Deleting a File Transfer Record

To delete a file transfer record:

  1. Follow the procedure for loading a record into the File Transfer Editor.

    The File Transfer Editor is displayed, containing the selected record, its fields non-editable.

  2. Select File > Delete selected record from the menu bar or click the Delete the current record toolbar button Delete.gif

    A dialog box displays the message:

    Are you sure that you want to permanently delete the selected item(s)?

  3. Click Yes.

    The file transfer record is removed and a dialog box displays the message:

    Record deleted.

  4. Click OK.

    You are returned to the File Transfer Editor.

File Transfer Editor

This form is displayed when you select the Generic file transfers option on the MS UTILITIES menu. It enables you to create and maintain file transfer records.
